SURE! He'll actually be pretty fine with telepathy. That sort of oneness is natural to spirits in his world. Please be aware the Bartimaeus does that thing we do where he narrates his life as it's happening. Including helpful footnotes. Feel free to be able to ICly read those.

For Human(oid)s
Bartimaeus is a djinni of no little power that can be summoned and commanded by the use of his true name. He wont be going by his true name in any game, but ... he's fairly horrible at hiding it, too. That said, a magician that knows their way around summoning wards, or have any sort of cross canon demon binding/summoning/commanding powers. Bartimaeus will be absolutely susceptible.
Can your character summon, ward, bind, or control spirits?
Do you mind Bartimaeus sensing a 'magician's smell' on your character?
Are you interested in a spirit being a pranking nuisance up to deadly force in your character's life? To what degree?
What kind of wonderful/terrible things would you like to get up to? I'm so happy to help brainstorm here.
For Spirits
Bartimaeus is much more happy with spirits than he is with anything else. Particularly weak spirits and ghosts, Bartimaeus just, you know, sometimes considers the virtues of a snack on the go. Nothing personal, sometimes you just need a pick-me-up.
